Free Motion Embroidery Classes

We have Dot Ronaldson coming in to the shop this May & June teaching Free Motion Embroidery in many different ways! You can be a complete beginner to Free Motion Embroidery on your sewing machine and you’ll still be very welcome on any of the classes. Dot will adapt to suit your experience levels. The beauty of our workroom is we only offer 4 spaces, so you get lots of tutor time! These are the classes Dot has on offer;

PLANT POT PICTURES

Saturday May 11th 10am to 4pm.

A fun and creative way to get started or improve your free machine embroidery skills and a great way to utilise tiny scraps of print fabric and learn a little about composition on the way.

Printed fabric is backed with iron-on interfacing to minimise fraying and then shapes are cut out and arranged to form the composition. These are then sandwiched between two layers of sheer fabric in an embroidery hoop. This gives you maximum control to enjoy adding detail with free machine embroidery. Soldering away the sheer fabric reveals the final piece.

Light refreshments included throughout the day at The Woolpatch.  Bring your own lunch, or you can purchase sandwiches/toasties from the lovely tea shop next door.

Card Making Workshop using Rag Paper or a Laminating Pouch

Wednesday May 8th 2pm to 4pm or Tuesday June 11th 2pm to 4pm

A fun 2 hour workshop designed for complete beginners or those with a little experience of free motion embroidery.

Decorative papers  are pre prepared and these are used to create a collage on rag paper and / or within a laminating pouch.

This forms the basis for your design which is then embellished with free motion embroidery. The images can be placed in a aperture or mounted on card.

This is an example of the rag paper finished product and the laminating pouch

Brooch Making

Saturday June 15th 10am to 4pm

A fun and creative way to get started or improve your free machine embroidery skills.

Transfer foils are used to embellish felt which is then cut to shape and trapped between two layers of sheer fabric in an embroidery hoop. This gives you maximum control to enjoy adding detail and definition with free machine embroidery. Soldering away the sheer fabric reveals the final piece which can then be further embellished with beading.

All of these classes can be booked online on our website. If you can’t book a space why not give me an email and if demand is there, we’ll just get Dot in for another time!
