CHSI Trade Show – NEC

What a fabulous day we had today at the CHSI Stitches Trade Show NEC Birmingham. Europe’s largest and most influential dedicated trade show for the art, craft, needlecraft and hobby sector.

It was a chance for me to see what was ‘out there’ in the world of yarn and fabric.

YARN
As for yarn and fabric all the big branded companies were there, as you would expect.  It was great to see them and their new ranges but we were more interested in finding the British, local, independant  brands.  I’m excited to say we found a couple of fabulous ones all of which are doing fabulous things with wool/fibre/yarn and fabric so hopefully we will be trialling out new yarns over the coming months.

So things for the future in The Woolpatch from what I’ve seen today…

  • A BRAND NEW 4PLY RANGE!:One range will be superwash (this is practical for many mothers) and a home grown BRITISH yarn 4ply range!!! I’m very excited about this one.
  • MORE SOCK YARN: I love the work of the West Yorkshire Spinners (WYS) and again it’s BRITISH so it’s great to support local, independant family brands and the WYS are a great example of this.  They released a new sock yarn colour PINK FLAMINGO! Flamingoes are the ‘IN’ this year.
  • KITS: We’ve found a couple of fab British companies that do Knit Kits and Crochet Kits.  It would be great to stock these and would make perfect gifts.

FABRIC
All our favourites were there – Lewis & Irene, Makower (more British companies), Michael Miller, Cotton & Steel and Riley Blake.  We have a complete collection from all of these companies coming into The Woolpatch over the coming months.  We’ve also now booked in Christmas 2017 Fabric for The Woolpatch too. So fabric is taken care of! Wahoo.

Micahel Miller: Just Us Chickens (Due in March 2017)

Michael Miller: Sassy Cats (Due June/July 2017)

Cotton & Steel: Wonderland (August 2017)

All in all brilliant day with lots to think about and hopefully act on.  They’ll be many more reps from various companies visiting The Woolpatch after the trade show today.  Exciting times for the shop!
